Well, my back feels great this morning but my hip does not! I was able to go about a half a mile and then I had to turn and walk back home... When is this ever going to happen for me? All that hard work through the winter, running in the snow and cold and now its all for not! Right now I don't know what my plan of action is, I came home and did about 10 minutes on the elliptical and then did my  standard lower body workout and core training, and it felt good doing the strength training, so I don't know what to think. It is more in the upper thigh rather than the hip, but running is out of the question I proved that today! The elliptical is so difficult for me to do, I just get way to bored. I will plan on taking tomorrow off just to see how it does, I was planning on starting training for SG on Monday and I have the 10 mile riverwoods race on Saturday, but that looks like that might not happen... What really ticks me off is I have been very careful about increasing my mileage, I have taken my time and tried not to over do it. I don't know,... I guess I will take a few more rest days and then re-evaluate and see where I'm at.. This SUCKS!!!!!! Did I mention this really SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it doesn't help much but I know exactly what you are going through. I worked hard this past winter and then along come March and April and all my dang injuries!!!! It really does SUCK!!!! Take some anti inflamatories, rest, ice the area, rest, ice, rest, ice more anti inflamatories and call me in the morning. A little light stretching around the area might not hurt either. Hang in there and be patient, it may only be a few days if you caught it early enough. Good luck and take it easy.

Clay I know just how you feel and I'm really sorry to hear about the hip. Kim is also having some pain in that area. Looking back at your training I can't see any obvious cause. With Kim I'm thinking it's running some aggressive hills too soon after a long run. But who knows?

One good thing if it is muscular is that muscle stuff will commonly heal up pretty quick (days rather than weeks in many cases). Tendons on the other hand take forever to heal up.

I guess one question I have is if running at any pace will work right now? I've had good luck when injuries come on with continuing to run but keeping it really slow and getting rid of hills if I think they are part of the problem. Of course crosstraining is good too. If you can still put in the time/miles each week even if they are at a slow pace I don't think you'll lose much conditioning.

At any rate I wish you the best in getting past this crummy problem.

Clay--this definitely sucks big time. I had groin issues that started at Christmas, persisted through January, but it helped me to stretch and ice and heat. It went away for the most part turning tax season, but reared its head again as I started to build my mileage. I have had 5 treatments on it by Dr. Brady in Provo, including ultrasound, deep tissue massage, electro-acupuncture, and some weirdo chinese herb patches. I probably have 2-3 visits to go. Dr. Brady says that groin issues are the slowest to heal, and I firmly believe it can persist and not get better if you don't get it worked on. I think his phone number is 375-2420. I would highly advise going to him, or some other physical or sports therapist. So sorry you are out for now. If you get treated by the race, I bet you'd feel good enough to at least show up and run it!
